“You’re Not a Criminal If You Have a Good Reason?” How Progressive Democrats Are Redefining Crime—and Destroying Our Cities

If you’ve ever wondered why progressive, left-wing Democrats seem soft on crime and push “restorative justice,” you can stop wondering.

If you’ve ever wondered why progressive Democrats seem soft on crime, wonder no more. It’s not ideology—it’s self-interest.

First, they protect a core constituency: minorities, which statistically include a disproportionate number of criminals connected to families or communities. Second, they protect the government’s crime racket, which funds the judicial system, law enforcement, and the criminal bar.

So it’s no surprise when Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), a lawyer and former public defender, tells the Getting Better podcast with Jonathan Van Ness:

“Just because someone has committed a crime, it doesn’t make them a criminal… Being a criminal is more about your mindset. Committing a crime can come from a lot of different reasons.”

Translation: If you have a “good reason,” stealing, assaulting, or destroying property doesn’t make you a criminal. Hungry? Poor? Feeling stressed? No problem—your crime is “understandable.”

Are we now supposed to treat criminals like victims, and victims like criminals? Is moral relativism replacing law and order?

Progressive Policies That Enable Crime

From bail reform to reduced prosecution for offenses to the “defund the police” movement, progressive Democrats are letting violent criminals off easy—blaming poverty, mental health, and systemic issues instead of personal accountability.

The result? Blue cities are exploding with crime, businesses are fleeing, and everyday citizens are paying the price for policies designed to protect criminals rather than the public.

If you think your neighborhood is safe, think again. With these policies in place, chaos is the new normal.

We are so screwed.
