The Great Neutrality Lie: For decades, the League of Women Voters has wrapped itself in the cloak of neutrality, proudly claiming to be “nonpartisan” while supposedly focusing only on civic participation. But anyone paying attention can see through the act. The League’s version of “nonpartisan” conveniently aligns with one political side every single time, and it’s never the conservative one. Their carefully branded neutrality is little more than a PR trick to maintain credibility while pushing a distinctly progressive agenda under the guise of “voter education.”
Every Issue, One Direction
Look at the pattern. On voting rights and election reform, the League consistently parrots left-leaning talking points about voter suppression and “equity,” dismissing any conservative arguments for voter ID or election integrity as “anti-democratic.” When it comes to reproductive freedom, they don’t hesitate to take an explicitly pro-choice stance, ignoring half the nation that believes in protecting unborn life.
The Progressive Playbook in Disguise
Their activism doesn’t stop there. On environmental protection, the League champions every green mandate and carbon-control regulation it can find, while pretending it’s just about “science.” On campaign finance, their obsession with “money in politics” conveniently targets conservative donors and corporate interests, yet they stay silent when progressive PACs flood elections with cash. Even gun safety and so-called social justice initiatives follow the same pattern: more government control, fewer individual rights, and a narrative that paints conservatives as villains.
Neutral? Hardly.
Neutral organizations don’t consistently promote one ideological side. Neutral organizations don’t lobby for laws that reflect only one worldview. The League’s track record shows a group less interested in balance and more intent on advancing progressive cultural and political dominance.
Time to Drop the Mask
The League of Women Voters has every right to advocate for its beliefs, but honesty matters. Stop pretending to be neutral. Stop claiming nonpartisanship while championing a left-wing wish list. Voters deserve transparency, not another wolf wrapped in the sheep’s clothing of “civic engagement.”
Political Manipulation: They Were Against It Before They Became Neutral.
Stop Newsom’s Power Grab – Protect Fair Maps!
Time Range For Action Alert: Jul 25 2025 to Aug 15 2025
Governor Newsom is reportedly considering mid-decade redistricting to redraw California’s congressional lines – not to serve the people, but to play political revenge games with Texas. This is gerrymandering, plain and simple. And it would be a dangerous step backward.
Californians fought hard to end the days of shady, backroom map deals. In 2008, we passed Proposition 11 to create the Citizens Redistricting Commission, an independent body that puts people over politics when drawing district lines. That system works. In fact it’s considered the national gold standard. And it belongs to the voters – not to the Governor or any political party. The LWVC was a proponent of Prop 11, and continues to advocate for fair redistricting throughout California.
Now, all that progress is under threat.
Mid-cycle redistricting would:
- Destabilize elections
- Confuse voters
- Open the door to partisan manipulation
- Undermine public trust in democracy
We must not let California dismantle our fair maps.

And Now…
October 23 2025, 6:00 PM
The League of Women Voters of California will not take a position on Proposition 50.
This statement explains our stance, provides context for it, and shifts the focus to empowering California voters.
Early in the process, before the ballot language was written, we, along with several other good government groups, issued independent statements opposing mid-cycle redistricting. This was consistent with the League’s long-standing positions at both the state and national level. Since then, and on the heels of Texas’ decision, California Governor Newsom and the legislature moved forward to do mid-cycle redistricting. Now, the ballot measure language has been finalized. While the process for the redistricting in California differs from what is happening in Texas, the California League recognizes the importance of staying aligned with our national League and with state and local Leagues, such as in Texas, that are, or may soon be, in court challenging unfair maps.
With all of these factors in mind, we have decided not to take a position on Proposition 50.
On the proposed maps themselves, our policy is clear: the people most affected by district maps, especially communities of color who are often underrepresented, should be the ones to decide if those maps are fair. Many of our partners in Latino, AAPI, and Black communities are still reviewing the California map and forming their positions. We will defer to them to share their conclusions.
The League of Women Voters of California is a nonpartisan organization. Every day we fight in the courts and in the legislature to protect Californians from President Trump’s authoritarian actions that threaten the rights and freedoms of all Americans. Our record on this is public and clear.
The League of Women Voters of California has always spoken truth, fought voter suppression, and stood in community for racial justice and democracy. We are a scrappy, grassroots, fire-fueled movement that will not allow democracy to be stolen. Donald Trump is using common tactics of an aspiring dictator: divide opposition, pit people against each other, and sow distrust. A well-worn tactic in that playbook is scapegoating, often by fueling anger and violence toward women. In recent weeks, the LWVC has received thousands of misogynistic, hate-filled emails. The League was forged in struggle, and we will not allow ourselves to be used as a scapegoat.
Authoritarianism is the enemy, not the League of Women Voters of California.
Now it is time for the voters to decide. Special elections often see low and unrepresentative turnout. The League of Women Voters of California Education Fund will work to ensure that the full diversity of California voters participate in the November 4, 2025 election, and that every voter has access to the non-partisan, in-language, and factual information they need to cast an informed vote.
Do not let partisan politics divide us. Now more than ever, we must stand together. And now more than ever, California voters need the League. [Source]
Bottom Line
We are being screwed by progressive organizations in drag.
