Did ABC News Target Gavin Newsom’s Top Rival?

ABC News is widely known for its liberal slant. Conservatives have long argued that the network frames stories to protect Democrats and undermine Republicans. So, when ABC releases a documentary that appears to harm then-Attorney General Josh Shapiro, a prominent Democrat believed to be a viable 2028 presidential candidate, it raises questions.

The Ellen Greenberg Case

In 2011, Ellen Greenberg, a Pennsylvania woman, was found dead in her home with 20 stab wounds. At the time, her death was officially ruled a suicide by then-Attorney General Josh Shapiro. The case has remained controversial, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding her death and the decision to classify it as self-inflicted.

However, the suicide finding has been met with criticism from Greenberg’s family and supporters, who argue that significant evidence was overlooked or mishandled during the investigation. They contend that the decision to classify her death as a suicide was premature and not supported by the full scope of forensic findings.

In February 2025, following a legal settlement, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered a re-investigation into Greenberg’s death. This decision came after the original medical examiner, Dr. Marlon Osbourne, submitted a sworn statement acknowledging that he no longer agreed with the initial suicide ruling, stating, “it is my professional opinion Ellen’s manner of death should be designated as something other than suicide.”

Governor Josh Shapiro has publicly defended his office’s handling of the Ellen Greenberg case, emphasizing that the original conclusion was based on the evidence available at the time and the importance of following the evidence in determining the cause of death.

“I understand why parents would want to keep this alive. I understand why they would want to find answers. I wanted nothing more than to be able to give them the answers that they wanted. But when you’re in the role of being a prosecutor, you have to follow the evidence.”

ABC News: “Death in Apartment 603: What Happened to Ellen Greenberg?”

Now, more than a decade later, ABC News has released a documentary revisiting Greenberg’s death. While such cases can merit renewed attention, the timing is notable: Shapiro is currently one of the Democratic Party’s most prominent rising stars and a potential future presidential contender. The continued focus on this tragic episode places him in the national spotlight under a negative lens, just as he could be gearing up for a significant political run.

The obvious question: Why resurface a decade-old case that casts Shapiro in a negative light? Why risk damaging one of the party’s most promising politicians?

Could There Be a Hidden Agenda?

One possibility involves the Clinton network. Critics have long accused the Clintons of using political influence for financial gain, and speculation suggests they may be attempting to revive the Clinton Global Initiative. If that’s the case, they would need a president amenable to their interests, someone predictable and cooperative.

Josh Shapiro, with his independent streak, may not fit that mold. Gavin Newsom, on the other hand, could be seen as a safer candidate for those seeking a compliant ally in the White House.

Weakening the Competition

If influential Democratic operatives wanted to ensure Newsom’s path to the nomination, targeting his strongest rival makes sense. ABC’s documentary, by highlighting a controversial period in Shapiro’s career, could serve to erode his credibility before the primaries even begin.

The Implications

There is no direct proof of a coordinated plan. However, if you examine who supports Newsom, who funds his campaigns, and who publicly aligns with him, the pattern may become clearer. Media scrutiny of Shapiro might not be about journalism or public interest; it could be about clearing the path for Newsom.

Bottom Line

The question practically asks itself: Why is ABC News dredging up a decade-old tragedy that places Shapiro at the center of controversy? Why risk tarnishing the reputation of one of the left’s strongest potential contenders for higher office?

ABC News may claim its motives are pure. But conservatives have seen this play before. When the left’s media organs suddenly go after one of their own, it’s not an accident. It’s a purge.

For those who ask themselves why this theory has any credibility, one need only note the machinations of the Democrats, Hillary Clinton in particular, in attempting to destroy the candidacy and then the presidency of Donald Trump. An effort that continues today with lawfare and the Democrats’ media propagandists.

For some observers, this is familiar territory: when a left-leaning media outlet suddenly turns against one of its own, it may signal a strategic move rather than an accident.

We are so screwed.
