Federal grand jury indicts former FBI director for false statements and obstruction in congressional testimony

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Lindsey Halligan, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, announced today that a federal grand jury returned an indictment charging former FBI Director James Comey with making a false statement and obstruction relating to his oral testimony before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on Sept. 30, 2020.

“The charges as alleged in this case represent a breach of the public trust at an extraordinary level,” said U.S. Attorney Halligan. “The balance of power is a bedrock principal of our democracy, and it relies upon accountability and a forthright presentation of facts from executive leadership to congressional oversight. Any intent to avoid, evade, prevent, or obstruct compliance is a violation of professional responsibility and, most importantly, the law.”

If convicted, Comey faces up to five years in prison. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. An indictment is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. [Source: Department of Justice: Case No. 1:25-cr-272]

No matter how loud the corrupt government elites squeal about “partisan retribution,” no matter how many headlines they churn out to paint themselves as victims, the American people see through the noise.

This isn’t about revenge — it’s about accountability.

And one name stands out above the rest: former FBI Director James Comey.

Spare Us the Fake Outrage — This Isn’t “Retribution,” It’s Justice

The same people who weaponized the federal government to try and bankrupt, imprison, and disgrace Donald Trump are now crying foul because the spotlight is finally turning back on them.

They call it political revenge. We call it consequences.

Comey Was Never Just “Doing His Job” — He Was Playing Politics

Let’s not pretend James Comey was some noble public servant.

As FBI Director, he repeatedly inserted himself into the 2016 election. He played both sides, broke protocol, and then tried to paint himself as the victim when the backlash came.

When Trump fired him, instead of going quietly, Comey orchestrated a media stunt — leaking internal memos (some potentially classified) to trigger a special counsel investigation. He admitted it under oath.

That’s not professionalism. That’s sabotage.

Leaks, Lies, and the Abuse of Power

Comey used his position at the FBI to leak sensitive information through intermediaries to The New York Times. These weren’t just casual notes — they were records of privileged conversations with the sitting president.

In any other workplace, leaking internal documents would get you fired. In Comey’s case, it helped him score a book deal and a CNN contract.

But leaking sensitive government material — especially classified content — isn’t just unethical. It’s criminal.

Lying to Congress Has Consequences — And Comey’s Are Coming

Comey has testified under oath to Congress multiple times, and evidence continues to mount that he misled lawmakers, distorted facts, and hid critical context — all to maintain his narrative.

Now, with a pending indictment reportedly in the works for lying to Congress, the media is scrambling to spin this as a partisan attack.

Sorry — lying under oath is a felony, no matter how many book tours you’ve done.

The Two-Tiered Justice System Is Crumbling

For years, we’ve watched the justice system go after Trump, his allies, and everyday Americans with unmatched aggression — all while shielding the architects of the Russia hoax and the DOJ/FBI abuse that followed.

The double standard is undeniable. But it’s cracking.

This isn’t just about Comey — it’s about every unelected bureaucrat who thought they could rig the system and never face the consequences.

Bottom Line: Don’t Back Down — Comey Must Be Held Accountable

This is the beginning of something long overdue: restoring equal justice under the law.

Let the media spin. Let the swamp scream. Let James Comey lawyer up.

Because the truth is finally catching up to him — and this time, he’s not above the law.

Caveat: However, given the various interpretations of the evidence and the vagaries of juries, conviction is not guaranteed, and the odds favor Comey over the Government.

Too bad we can’t hold Hillary Clinton, James Clapper, John Brennan, Merrick Garland, Alejandro Mayorkas, and at least 200 others.
