A Mayor Who Blames the Protectors
Chicagoans are living in fear while crime runs rampant through their streets. Yet instead of addressing the problem, race-baiting, corrupt Mayor Brandon Johnson continues to attack the very people tasked with keeping the city safe. Calling law enforcement a “sickness” that doesn’t make communities safer is not only reckless, it is insulting to the men and women who risk their lives daily to protect Chicagoans.
“The fact of the matter is, we are driving violence down on this city, and we’re using every single resource that’s available to us. Jails and incarceration and law enforcement is a sickness that has not led to safe communities.”
Deflecting Responsibility Instead of Confronting Crime
In a city where shootings and homicides are tragically routine, the mayor’s rhetoric amounts to a betrayal. Just after a deadly Labor Day weekend left 54 people shot and seven dead, Johnson doubled down on his claims that jailing criminals is “racist” and “unholy.” To the families of officers slain in the line of duty, and to the countless citizens living in fear, his words are a cruel mockery of reality. Police officers are not the problem—they are the solution.
False Narratives About Gun Violence
Mayor Johnson has further deflected responsibility by blaming guns from “red states” like Indiana and Mississippi, yet ATF data clearly shows that most firearms recovered in crimes originate within Illinois itself. Chicagoans deserve leaders who face facts, not those who shift blame to anyone but themselves.
Ignoring the Reality of Repeat Offenders
While other cities, like Washington, D.C., have seen measurable reductions in violent crime thanks to strong enforcement policies, Johnson clings to a narrative that criminality is a systemic inevitability. In truth, violent crime is concentrated in a small percentage of repeat offenders. Addressing these individuals decisively would save lives—but that would require leadership, not ideology.
The Stakes Are Life and Death
Chicago cannot afford a mayor who demonizes law enforcement while the streets burn. Mayor Johnson’s refusal to confront violent criminals is a failure of leadership that jeopardizes every resident, every family, and every community. Law-abiding citizens deserve safety, accountability, and justice—not platitudes that excuse chaos and glorify lawlessness.
Chicago: A City Plagued by Corruption and Machine Politics
Chicago’s struggles with crime cannot be separated from its long history of political corruption. For decades, the city has been controlled by a Democratic machine that has too often prioritized power over public safety. From city hall to the courthouse, scandals, embezzlement, and patronage have plagued the Windy City, eroding trust in government and weakening law enforcement.
This political culture has created an environment where criminal behavior can flourish unchecked. When leaders like Mayor Johnson prioritize ideology over enforcement, they perpetuate a system where lawlessness thrives and honest citizens suffer. Instead of tackling the root causes of crime with accountability and effective policing, machine politics too often protects career politicians while leaving neighborhoods vulnerable.
Chicagoans deserve leaders who put the people first—not political loyalty, partisan narratives, or empty promises. Until the city breaks free from the grip of entrenched corruption and Democratic machine politics, law-abiding residents will continue to pay the price.
Police Response
Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 President John Catanzara commented:
Behind me is the mayor’s house. Three squad cars blocking it, patrolling it, protecting it for him and his family.
Yet he calls law enforcement a sickness. What a hypocrite, piece of garbage. And the sooner he is gone in March of 27, the better.
The reality is if Brandon Johnson was not mayor of City of Chicago and still working for CTU, he’d be picketing, protesting and demanding defunding of the police department every single chance he got. Period. He has always hated us.
He still hates us. He just can’t say what he wants to publicly. But two days ago, the truth came out a little bit because he lost control.
And believe him when he says it, that he believes we are a sickness. That’s just who he is. Um, I will say this lastly, for him to admonish the president for putting his name on the paper, so to speak, about the decline in crime and having anything to do with it.
Shame on Mayor Johnson for thinking he has anything to do with it. The men and women of this police department have everything to do with it. They have always had everything to do with it.
Period. Full stop. The difference, the major difference in the decline numbers is attributed to a Cook County State’s attorney who believes in law and order and accountability prior to her predecessors ridiculous, let everybody free and feel more sympathy for the offenders than for the victims and their families.
Bottom Line: A Call for Real Leadership
It is time for Mayor Johnson to put aside political posturing, acknowledge the reality of crime in Chicago, and support the brave officers who keep the city from descending entirely into violence. Anything less is a betrayal of public trust.
We are so screwed.
